Who we are
Somewhere Café, Off Duty, Bofa Beach, Kilifi, Kenya, runs this website (https://somewhereinkenya.com). We are part of the Tribal Dunes village by TribalSand. Questions about your data: contact us through the details on the home page.
What we collect, and why
- Booking requests (table, coworking desk or group): your name, email, phone or WhatsApp number, the date, time, party size and anything you add in the message. We use these only to arrange and confirm your booking, and to contact you about it.
- Join the community: your name, email, optional phone number, the interests you tick and any message. We use these to send you news about events, sessions and offers — only because you ticked the consent box. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email.
- Technical data: our server keeps standard access logs (your IP address, the page requested, browser type, time) for security and to keep the site running. Submitted forms are also checked for automated abuse; the checks store only short-lived, anonymised counters.
We never sell your details, and we do not use them for profiling or automated decisions.
Where your details go
- Bookings and sign-ups are saved in the café's private management panel, which only our staff can open, and a copy is emailed to the café's notification address.
- Email is sent through Google (Gmail / Google Workspace). If the site shows a "verify you are human" box, that check is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile. If analytics are switched on, Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) runs only after you accept cookies.
- The website is hosted on a shared web server in a data centre operated by our hosting provider.
Some of these providers process data outside Kenya. They do so under their own safeguards and privacy terms.
How long we keep it
Booking requests and sign-ups are kept in the management panel for [[TODO: retention period, e.g. 12 months]] after the booking date or the last contact, then deleted. Server logs are kept for a short time by the hosting provider. You can ask us to delete your details sooner at any time.
Your rights
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 (and the GDPR if you are in the EU/UK) you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, withdraw your consent to news emails, or object to how we use it. Email us with the name and email you used, and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Kenya).
Cookies
- Strictly necessary: one session cookie (
somewhere_sid) that protects the forms against forged submissions and remembers a message after you send a form. It expires after 8 hours and contains no personal details. - Analytics (optional): only if analytics are switched on for this site and you choose "Accept" in the cookie bar. Google Analytics then sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) to count visits anonymously. "Reject" keeps them off; your choice is remembered on this device and you can change it by clearing the site's data in your browser.
We do not use advertising cookies.

If we change how we use your details, we will update this page and the date at the top.
